2011 NCMF Fall Festival Results

Lonnie Musil on Lead Guitar, Nuet Larson Drums, Jim Hyatt on Bass and Keyboards and Chuck Lettes on Steel Guitar

The show is over and the results are in.  McKenzie after a week long festival is exhausted and luckily just so happens to have today off from school. The experience McKenzie received at the week long festival is very much appreciated and will help launch her into a new direction here in the future.  I can't wait to see whats in store in 2012 for McKenzie!  During the awards banquet at the end of the week McKenzie was awarded "Top Female Teen or Youth Vocalist".  She was recognized and awarded for her second place finish earlier this year in the "Star Karaoke Competition" held in Sutton, Nebraska and finally, she was awarded a "People's Choice".  This was voted on by all those that attended the performances over two days.  Mckenzie's name was also on the ballot for Nebraska entertainer of the year...   Congratulations to Gretta, you did a great job and we really enjoyed your performances.

Again, the festival and being a part of the Nebraska Music Foundation are a huge reason McKenzie is starting to become confident in herself and we owe a lot to it.  I encourage anyone who loves to sing especially country music to join the Nebraska Country Music Foundation.  Yearly membership dues are due every fall at the festival and the cost currently is a very resonable $25.  You should check it out, you'll be glad you did.

Live Band!

The Nebraska Country Music Foundation Band + McKenzie

We just went to Hastings to sing Karaoke tonight for the Nebraska Country Music Foundatiuon Festival at the Hastings VFW.  I didn't plan on singing with a live band but I actually got to.  I sang the song "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry with a backing track and right when we were getting ready to leave because it was getting late and  we had to drive back to Lincoln because I have school in the morning,  was asked by the band if I would like to sing with them.  I said sure!  Let do this.  I was a little nervous, but once the song started I felt right at home and couldn't believe they just learned the song right on the spot...  I am looking forward to practicing with them this week and possibly singing two songs with them during the festival.

Star Karaoke Competition

Here is a picture of McKenzie sleeping on the way to the competition...  Notice her good luck pal "Joey" in her lap.

Don't I look excited?  I was really tired and it was a long road trip to Sutton.  After getting there to Sutton I woke up and had a great time seeing some of my old friends from the NCMF and met a couple of new ones (Ashton Duggan-she's really good).  Anyways, after singing "Hip To My Heart" by The Band Perry and "Rolling In The Deep" by Adele they announced the winners.

I placed second in this show and received a fancy certificate, "festival pack" (worth $40) and will also get a check for $50 at the awards banquet at the NCMF banquet in October.  After they announced the winners, we all got to sing again and I just had to sing one of my favorites, "Born Free" by Kid Rock.

I had a great time in Sutton and look forward to singing at the festival in October with a live band!

Got to meet Easton Corbin while we were Montgomery, Alabama at my sisters softball nationals!  That was really cool and I even got a picture with his autograph.  He had a great concert, not to mention it was free.  I would like to go to another one of his concerts.

Miranda Lambert Concert

On Saturday we went to the Miranda Lambert Concert.  Josh Kelly and Justin Moore opened for her and all in all it was a good concert.  It would have been better if the girls in front of us didn't stand up the whole time...  How rude!  Anyways, one of the things besides Miranda's singing that was good or maybe not so good was Justin Moore fell of stage.  It was funny, only because he didn't get hurt.  The crowd shoved him right back up on stage and he took a bow, we could see his red face from the second level.  But what was really cool was he just kept on singing like nothing happened.

Original Song

My dad and I are working on a couple of original songs.  The one that is closest to being finished is inspired by my Great Grandpa's farm.  The hardest thing so far has been getting it just right and fitting all of the things we want in there.  We were having trouble with the chorus but think we have a good one now...  He says he would like me to sing it at the Nebraska Country Music Foundation Festival in October.  I have sang it several times now and he is fine tuning it.  Dad said a lot of people would be able to relate to the song.  Anyways, I'll keep you updated.

Singing Competition

I just competed in a singing contest.  I was kinda nervous.  I mean, I actually only just sang in front of my family last week for the first time and then practiced once on Tuesday.  I was nervous, but I did it and guess what!  I WON!!!  I can't believe it.  I received a money prize and it was neat to see the Judges comments after the show.  One of the comments was they were surprised when I started singing.  The other singers did a great job and it was nice to meet all of the members of the Nebraska Country Music Foundation and they were all proud of me.  I can't wait til I get to sing again and see everyone again!

My First Performance At The Bowling Alley

I just performed in front of people for the first time!  I went to York, Nebraska and sang in front of two people in the Lounge at the Sunset Bowling Alley.  I was nervous on the drive up there and dad kept asking how I was doing.  I said fine.  I was kinda nervous.

When we got there dad sad look there is only about 20-30 cars here and probably at the most it's only gonna be about 60 people and most of them will be bowling.  That made me feel better.  He said that there will probably be people in the bar drinking beer at the bar and they won't even know you are there so don't worry about anything.  He said they are just there to drink beer.  I thought that was funny.  Then dad said, "I bet when they hear your voice they turn around".  I asked why.  He said cuz your good!  That made me feel good

Ralph was there when we walked in and dad was right there were two guys in there drinking beer and one guy behind the bar.  Dad said we had to leave the bar before 9 so if I wanted to sing I better do it.  I was nervous but we walked over and talked to Ralph.  I forgot my camera so we had to go back out to the car.  Ralph probably thought we were chicken.  Anyways, when we walked back in we watched Ralph for a minute and clapped for him when he was done singing.  Then it was my turn...  Ralph started the music and all of the Butterflies went away and I did it!

Dad was right!  The two guys drinking beer turned around and they smiled.  I was singing "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus.  After I was done with that song they clapped.  So I sang again, and by the time we left last night there were about a dozen people watching me, smiling and clapping!  I felt so good.  I don't now what I was scared about.  It's fun to do something you love to do and make people happy doing that something.

I have a singing contest this week-end at the same place, so I can't wait.  Wish me luck, I'll let you know how I do.

My friend Lee Gibson

I just got done talking to a friend of mine on the phone a little while ago.  His name is Lee Gibson and he is from Nashville, TN.  If you have never heard of Lee Gibson, trust me when I say your missing out!  You will be hearing from him soon.  "His song Somewhere Other Than Here" ROCKS!  He is a very nice guy and he sings really well.  Here is a link to his website and a couple of his songs that you can comment on at Ourstage.com.  Lee just won the country category and a $1000.00 in January.

Taste of Country- George Strait Troubadour Cover Contest

I just entered a contest.  It was the Taste of Country George Strait Troubadour Cover Contest.  It was fun learning the song.  I helped my dad make a video for it...  I picked out the dog picture.  He is so cute.  I hope I win. If I do I could be going to Texas and see him in person!  You also win a guitar!!!  Wish me Luck!!!  I'll find out one way or the other by this Friday.  There was a lot of really good entries though so I'm not holding my breathe.

Taylor Ball Tickets

This past week my mom, dad, two sisters, cousin and Grandma all went down to Froggy 98 to try win Taylor Swift tickets by picking up a Taylor Ball ticket for me.  Each day we were all able to get one ticket each.  I think we got maybe somewhere to 30 all together!   It was fun going down to the radio station and Friday before school they announced the winners of the Taylor Swift concert tickets over the radio by reading some numbers and you had to have the winning "Taylor Ball ticket" and number in order.  Guess what!!!...  It wasn't us.  Oh well. I am going to try again to win some tickets if I can and they have more contest.  I really want to see her.  After school, dad told me Taylor Swift concert in Omaha sold out in two and a half hours.  That's for both shows!  I kinda cried, but hopefully they have some more tickets that they can give away when they get closer to the show...  I hope so anyways.
