Karaoke Contest VFW

McKenzie outside the VFW in Hastings, Nebraska

Had a fun time singing for everyone at the VFW in Hastings again.  Even though we were surrounded by tornadoes and thunderstorms, along with flash flooding.  We left Lincoln, to get away from the weather and drove an hour and a half to Hastings to participate in the Karaoke contest...  Once we got to Hastings the weather turned to blue skies...  But by the end of the night the storm tracked us down.  I ended up winning third place that night and actually won the pie I donated.  Kinda funny.  Anyways, we had to leave because the storm was chasing us down.  We out ran the storm on the way back to Lincoln arriving at thome about midnight, but this time the shoe was on the other foot and dad chased the tornadoes out of town  while we were entering Lincoln.  Quite the exciting night.

I forgot to mention one of the big highlights of the night for me...  That was, that Ron Grime's, my dad and I all sang one of Ron Grime's original songs together out in the parking lot in his car...  It was just spur of the moment and a whole lotta fun!

The three big winners of the night (2nd) Mike Alloway,  (1st)Deb Bishop and (3rd)Me...  All three of us won a pie, we also were the top performers at the Fall Festival.

My Pitching Coach's Softball Team

Tonight I went out to Emerald and gave back to my pitching coach.  Jim Kraus my softball pitching coach asked me if I would like to sing for his U18 softball team the Nebraska Swingers for a little entertainment at their annual team meeting.  I said sure.    The team asked me to sing two extra songs and even invited me to hang around and eat and play games after I was done.  I had a good time singing for his team and wished them all good luck on their upcoming season.  Thanks for inviting me out Jim!

Good Samaritan Village

Today I got to sing at the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, Nebraska.  I had a blast singing for the residents! I'd like to thank Connie for inviting me to sing.  I sang for an hour.   Three of the songs that they seemed to like the most were "Santa Baby", "Home On The Range" and "Happy Birthday" which I dedicated to my Grandma and it was neat for her because it was a surprise.  My Grandma also works there!  I invited everyone to join in and they did!  It made me smile and my Granma cry.  After I sang my last song, I shook hands with everyone and they invited me to the kitchen for some pumpkin bars.  They were really good.

2011 NCMF Fall Festival Results

Lonnie Musil on Lead Guitar, Nuet Larson Drums, Jim Hyatt on Bass and Keyboards and Chuck Lettes on Steel Guitar

The show is over and the results are in.  McKenzie after a week long festival is exhausted and luckily just so happens to have today off from school. The experience McKenzie received at the week long festival is very much appreciated and will help launch her into a new direction here in the future.  I can't wait to see whats in store in 2012 for McKenzie!  During the awards banquet at the end of the week McKenzie was awarded "Top Female Teen or Youth Vocalist".  She was recognized and awarded for her second place finish earlier this year in the "Star Karaoke Competition" held in Sutton, Nebraska and finally, she was awarded a "People's Choice".  This was voted on by all those that attended the performances over two days.  Mckenzie's name was also on the ballot for Nebraska entertainer of the year...   Congratulations to Gretta, you did a great job and we really enjoyed your performances.

Again, the festival and being a part of the Nebraska Music Foundation are a huge reason McKenzie is starting to become confident in herself and we owe a lot to it.  I encourage anyone who loves to sing especially country music to join the Nebraska Country Music Foundation.  Yearly membership dues are due every fall at the festival and the cost currently is a very resonable $25.  You should check it out, you'll be glad you did.

Live Band!

The Nebraska Country Music Foundation Band + McKenzie

We just went to Hastings to sing Karaoke tonight for the Nebraska Country Music Foundatiuon Festival at the Hastings VFW.  I didn't plan on singing with a live band but I actually got to.  I sang the song "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry with a backing track and right when we were getting ready to leave because it was getting late and  we had to drive back to Lincoln because I have school in the morning,  was asked by the band if I would like to sing with them.  I said sure!  Let do this.  I was a little nervous, but once the song started I felt right at home and couldn't believe they just learned the song right on the spot...  I am looking forward to practicing with them this week and possibly singing two songs with them during the festival.

Star Karaoke Competition

Here is a picture of McKenzie sleeping on the way to the competition...  Notice her good luck pal "Joey" in her lap.

Don't I look excited?  I was really tired and it was a long road trip to Sutton.  After getting there to Sutton I woke up and had a great time seeing some of my old friends from the NCMF and met a couple of new ones (Ashton Duggan-she's really good).  Anyways, after singing "Hip To My Heart" by The Band Perry and "Rolling In The Deep" by Adele they announced the winners.

I placed second in this show and received a fancy certificate, "festival pack" (worth $40) and will also get a check for $50 at the awards banquet at the NCMF banquet in October.  After they announced the winners, we all got to sing again and I just had to sing one of my favorites, "Born Free" by Kid Rock.

I had a great time in Sutton and look forward to singing at the festival in October with a live band!
